West Bowling look set to finish their National Conference Division One

promotion-winning season off in style when they welcome Milford Marlins to their spiritual home at Emsleys Rec.

Bowling have bounced back into the Premier top flight at the first attempt after being relegated last term in what has been the closest-run race in many years.

The new coaching team of Peter Simpson and Nigel Halmshaw have been justly rewarded after taking over in mid-term from Glenn Barraclough.

But the input of St Helens and former Bradford Bulls favourite Leon Pryce has proved inspirational, with West's widely acknowledged as one of the best-drilled sides in the Conference.

Bowling will be without Lee Innes, who is representing the Army in Australia, and Phillip Chappell (work commitments).

Leading try-scorer Tim Sutcliffe will be eligible to play after Yorkshire County switched their match against Cumbria to next week.

Simpson said: "As we are already promoted, we have achieved our main target for the season.

"We have a faint chance of the title but are relying on other teams to drop points on the final day of the season in what should be one of the league's tightest

finishes, with the top three teams all

finishing on 40 points.

"We will be looking to maintain our

winning run and ensure that we are the team with the least losses in the league.

"We could only manage a draw against Milford earlier in the season, which effectively has cost us the league, so we will be looking to avenge that result with a grandstand finish."

In the Pennine League, Clayton are at home to a Brighouse Rangers outfit

treading water in mid-table of the Premier Division, while Queensbury will pull out all the stops when old rivals Siddal A appear at Hill Top.

The Division One programme is rapidly drawing to a close, with relegated West Bowling A playing for pride at home to New Earswick and Dudley Hill on a hiding to nothing at unbeaten leaders Halifax Irish.

Hill knocked the Irish out of the Presidents Cup but summer rugby dictates it will be a different outfit that makes the journey this time.

Birkenshaw have the chance to ensure they stay in situ next season with a win at Kippax Welfare and Victoria Rangers are in an identical situation when they visit St Josephs.

Bank Top Harriers have the chance to bring down Division Three promotion rivals Rotherham when they travel to South Yorkshire.
