WHARFEDALE coach John Lawn said his side must go back to basics if they are to finish the season on a high.

The Greens travel to North Yorkshire neighbours Harrogate tomorrow aiming for a third successive league win to tighten their grip on fifth spot in the table.

And having secured a semi-final spot in the Yorkshire Cup on Tuesday night, their season is far from petering out.

But Lawn called his players in for an extra training session last night to iron out some flaws evident in Dale's streaky 29-27 win over Cleckheaton.

"We need to tighten up a bit and get back to the drawing board on one or two of the basics," he said.

"We played very well against Doncaster (in the previous round) where we very dynamic but we also did the basics well in the set piece and at the breakdown."

Lawn felt his side neglected such aspects at times against Cleckheaton, adding: "We tried to go wide from static ball which, unless you are exceptionally good, doesn't pay off.

"I asked the players to come in for an extra session and they were in unanimous agreement which is pleasing from that point of view. We are setting high standards and we didn't live up to those standards."

Lawn was due to finalise his 15 for the Claro Road clash - the longest running fixture in national two - at training last night.
