It will be encouraging news for Bradford City's supporters that the club's commercial manager Peter Etherington has been named as the investor being lined up to share power with chairman Julian Rhodes.

The continuing uncertainty about the Bantams' financial future has been a renewed source of concern and disappointment to the many fans who worked so hard to ensure that the Telegraph & Argus's Save Our City campaign was a success. However, they (and we) can take a great deal of comfort from the fact that without that campaign the club would almost certainly have gone under and would not now be able to be the subject of a further plan to safeguard its future.

Mr Rhodes has done a sterling job of bankrolling the club, and is to continue to do so by generously covering its projected £1.2 million loss for the financial year. Now it seems that the increased involvement of Mr Etherington will mean that about £2.5 million will additionally be pumped into City's funds in instalments, starting this summer.

Mr Etherington, who arrived at Valley Parade at the start of the season with a good track record, has already made his mark by setting up the revenue-earning Bantams Business Centre. As Mr Rhodes says, he can bring not only cash to the club but also specialist expertise thanks to his business involvement with 60 football clubs across the country.

His increased official involvement will hopefully give the club the stability it needs to face the future with confidence.
