Andy Cooke today confessed: This season has been hell for me.

The City striker, currently on loan at Darlington, admitted he is ticking off the days until the end of his "nightmare" campaign.

Cooke took until the end of October to score the first of his two goals for the Bantams. And he has netted just once in six games in League Two.

The 32-year-old, whose contract at Valley Parade runs out in the summer, says he is desperate to see the back of a term that has never taken off.

Cooke confirmed: "It's been the worst season of my life and I cannot wait until it's over. It's been horrible.

"I don't usually wish seasons away but the sooner this one is out the way the better. I feel like it's just been one nightmare after another.

"I don't want to play badly, nobody does. But sometimes it just doesn't happen for you.

"I've been lucky so far in that most of my career I've enjoyed good seasons. I was really looking forward to this one but for some reason or other it has not worked out at all."

Despite being a crowd favourite, he has started only one City game since Christmas against Colchester and was loaned out on Valentine's Day.

Darlington have lost five of his six matches to drop out of the play-off reckoning.

He said: "It's really hard work and completely different to League One. It takes a while to get accustomed to the physical side of this division, although it is nice to be playing regularly again.

"A lot of the team are young lads learning the game and the results haven't been the best.

"I scored in my first game and then had a few chances in the next one against Shrewsbury but their young keeper was in top form.

"Since then we've really struggled as a team going forward and I haven't had many opportunities at all."

Cooke joined City 15 months ago after a spell in South Korea, scoring four times in 20 appearances last season.

It is very doubtful he will be offered another deal although the club have yet to announce their decision.

He added: "I haven't heard a single thing from Bradford. I'll just wait to see what happens when my loan is up in a couple of games.

"I can't do anything until the end of the season and then I'll take it from there.

"If I was younger, I'd go chasing it but I'm in the position where I don't need to so I'll wait until then.

"But I've been about a bit and at this stage of my career I need to be putting my family first."
