Of the small group of clubs chasing the two promotion places to the Conference North, Farsley Celtic had the best midweek and they are currently second in the UniBond Premier Division.

Only the title winners go up automatically but The Celts are now just one point off the summit after a thumping 6-1 victory over Wakefield & Emley.

That was the fifth straight league win for Lee Sinnott's men but he insists his squad keep their feet on the ground. "Over the past couple of weeks we have manoeuvred ourselves into a strong position and have given our goal difference a boost," said Sinnott, after a run that has gathered a maximum 15 points with 16 goals scored while only one has been conceded.

"We are all aware that the others in the mix have played fewer games and could overtake us. But I would sooner be where we are than nine points worse off with three games in hand."

Roy Stamer came back from injury to score in Tuesday's romp. He also had a shot deflected for an own goal and set up a third. Striker Simoen Bambrook was not so lucky, he missed out after picking up a slight injury in the 1-0 win at Ossett Town last weekend.

Bambrook joins Carl Serrant and Andy Dugdale in tomorrow's squad - all available and awaiting a chance to make the most of a recall to the starting line-up if it comes along.

"We have now what we didn't have early in the season when we were struggling for consistency - a fit and firing squad. My team talks are a lot simpler these days. I say 'look around you and see the quality'."
