AIREVILLE School in Skipton has said a warm "G'day" to new FUNdamental Development Coach, Kate Poat.

Kate, who hails from western Australia, has joined the Craven School Sports Partnership team.

Based at Aireville, she will be coaching local primary schools and promoting lunchtime and after-school activities.

Kate went to school in Australia and has worked as a health promotions officer in her native country, as an exercise physiologist in London and as a sports and activities leader for the Bradford Sports Action Zone.

Big Lottery and North Yorkshire Sport has funded her post for a year, but it is hoped this will turn into a three-year assignment.

Kate said: "I am very excited to be working with the schools and young people in the Craven area.

"I am keen to initiate these new activities across the district and look forward to meeting staff and young people."

Craven sports partnership development manager Rebecca Walters said: "It has taken 12 months to secure funding for this post and I am now very excited about the project.

"Kate will work across Craven developing lunchtime clubs, training key stage two young leaders to support the delivery of activity and starting five after-school clubs across the district specifically targeting key stage one children.

"It is key that this post makes a real sustainable difference to all areas of Craven. I will be looking for volunteers and parents to support activity where possible, full training will be made available.

"Currently five school sports co-ordinators are working across primary, secondary, middle and special schools and Kate will liaise closely with them to ensure we develop sustainable activity that really addresses local need."
