Cubs Under-16s 22, York Acorn 30 - The Cubs Yorkshire League Division One play-off hopes were dealt a severe blow after they went down to York.

Illness and injuries to key players could not explain a lethargic start that allowed York to score three quick converted tries. A fourth soon followed as the Cubs went 24-0 behind.

The introduction of Ben Parkinson just before half time proved was the turning point as he galvanised the side in attack and defence.

Skipper Ricky Leatham led the fightback scoring one try and creating another for Jamie Owens. Tries from Tom Rushworth and Ben Sagar had raised hopes of an unlikely comeback before York scored their decisive fifth try for a deserved victory.

Daniel Foster was lively at second row with some spirited running and solid tackling. Man of the match Tom Rushworth was at his best.

Five minutes into the second half Walker made a blockbusting run, crashing through several players to put his side 22 points up.

In the last quarter Odsal hit back with three tries and a goal to set up a grandstand finish, but the Cubs held out.

By half time, with further tries by Ashley Honeyman and a second of three in the match for Ethan Hawksworth, the Cubs led 20-0.

The second half saw much of the same, with Clayton being penned in their own half for most of the match and not getting the credit for some excellent handling skills. King Cross 4

The Cubs picked up their ninth consecutive win in style to defeat a King Cross team that over recent years has tended to come out on top in games between the teams.

O a heavy pitch the Cubs played some awesome rugby in a marvellous team effort that was always going to be a forwards battle given the conditions.

The Cubs handling was exemplary for the first try before Aaron Tattersall Jarvis crossed the line in style. The Cubs were camped in the King Cross half for most of the first half with crunching tackles from Wasim Shabir and Conor Caveney leading as the dominated the game. Good approach work by Josh Ives and Jordan Aitchison brought the Cubs to within three yards and Conor Caveney gave the opposition no chance as he crashed over from acting half.

Paul Feather set up Martyn Broadley who scored the final try of the half under the posts and Ben Stead added the conversion.

King Cross came out fighting but the Cubs soaked up pressure before the Cubs once more taking control. Broadley made the game safe and a consolation try for King Cross in the last minute of the game did little to dampen the joy of the Cubs .
