Stanley Gene hopes he can show his

versatility to the Bradford Bulls fans in Saturday's big Powergen Challenge Cup tie against Hull FC.

Much of what the Papua New Guinean Test star did last Friday night in the Super League against Wigan was shrouded in the mist that enveloped Odsal.

But the 31-year-old revealed he WAS in the utility role against the Warriors,

saying: "Every ten minutes someone came on with a message saying 'play loose forward' or 'play stand-off'. I even ended up at hooker after Ian Henderson was concussed.

"I had my best game for the Bulls - it's just that Brian (Noble) wasn't able to see it!"

Bulls coach Noble laughed: "Yes, Stan - you scored two tries, had 30 carries and made 50 tackles!"

Gene isn't the first player this week to try and hoodwink Noble into thinking he had an absolute stormer in the Odsal fog against basement club Wigan.

But the former Hull KR, Hull and Huddersfield player was happy enough with his contribution to the cause, saying: "I was just glad to get 80 minutes under my belt and I felt fine at the end of it."

The all-rounder has played in every game for the Bulls this season, including the 18-12 league win over Hull at Odsal just three weeks ago, but last weekend was his first start.

Now Gene has turned his attention to the knockout clash against Hull - one of his former clubs - in front of the BBC cameras on Saturday.

He said: "You just want to beat one of your old teams. Yes they have been losing but they have been playing well. And I have no doubt that, as the cup holders, they will be giving it 110 per cent at the weekend.

"But one of our aims this season is to do well in the Challenge Cup and we will be fired up to win. It is a big game for us but fans should also realise that we cannot play at the same high level of intensity all the way through a season - it is just not possible."

Ever-present Gene, who has already scored three tries this season and had several assists, revealed that if Bradford had not snapped him up late last year he might well have been playing for Hull in 2006.

He said: "I had another year of my

contract to go at Huddersfield but my other options were Hull and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats."

l Junior fans are reminded they can watch Saturday's game for just £1 on presentation of their season-ticket at the gate.
