Aireborough stretched their unbeaten run to 24 games last night as they maintained their pursuit of a treble.

Already champions of York-shire Division Four and into the semi-finals of the York-shire Silver Trophy, where they host Guisborough on Saturday, they made a confident start in the Skipton Properties Aire-Wharfe Cup.

Despite playing on a quagmire of a pitch that has not been in as bad a shape for nigh on a decade, the hosts and Wharfedale Thirds served up an entertaining game.

Aireborough, fielding nine first-team regulars - hooker Nigel Craven was one of the absentees with a fractured eye socket after blowing his nose too hard in their clubhouse on Saturday night - led 17-0 at the interval thanks to contrasting tries by No 8 Stuart Brewer.

Firstly he got on the end of

a 14th-minute pushover effort, then sprinted over 23 minutes later for an interception try, with fly half James Stocker converting both and adding a penalty.

When Aireborough's Paul Exley was in the sin-bin, winger Nick Taylor scored a try for the Greens in the 63rd minute, Steve Moon converting, but Stocker finished matters off with a 77th-minute try for a personal haul of 12 points.

Roundhegians, pushing for promotion from Yorkshire Division Three, won 15-10 at West Park Bramhope Seconds.

Wingers bagged three of the tries, Nick Thackray getting a brace for the victors and Kurt Nutchey one for West Park, No 8 Graham Foxton getting their other try.

The second-team clash bet-ween Yarnbury and Ilkley at Brownberrie Lane was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. It has been re-arranged for tomorrow.
