Clayton wingman Jason Brooksbank's devotion to duty in postponing his Caribbean wedding to play in the Pennine League Premier Division

relegation battle at Illingworth was rewarded with a two-try man-of-the-match display in his side's 28-20 win.

The Villagers are now within striking distance of the safety zone with games in hand, although it was a close-run thing with the scores locked 6-6 at the break.

Scrum half Scott Holt posted the early try but it was two late efforts from centre Eddie Harney and prop John Parkinson, plus four conversions from the boot of Danny Belcher, which sealed the points.

Queensbury lost out to a late drop goal as they went down 29-28 at home to Elland.

Bury were in the driving seat 12-4 at half-time and, despite scoring four

excellent tries from Trevor Stead, Luke Brearcliffe, Danny Hill and Gareth Hobson, plus goals from Johnny Feather (4) and Chris Wainwright (2), Elland

slotted the crucial one-pointer to pinch the game.

In Division One, Victoria Rangers looked set for an upset following a touchdown from second-row forward Matt Brickley and two goals by stand-off Len Dalladay to lead 8-4 at Newsome Panthers.

However, despite a towering performance from forward Dave Newhall the Vics were unable to add to their total and finished up losing 20-8.

Birkenshaw paid the price for a slow start to go down 30-14 at Park Amateurs.

Birky were out of the contest 24-0 at the interval but an improvement in the

second stanza saw touchdowns from Eddie Filtness (2) and Mickey Glenn.

Undercliffe have it all to do to go up in Division Three after a 22-18 defeat at

second-placed Dearne Valley.

Callum Jordan and Gavin Jarvis, plus a try and three goals from Adien Booth, were unfortunately not enough to lower the Barnsley outfit's colours.

Wyke now only need a win at rock-

bottom Thornton next week to secure the Division Four championship after their 84-1 rout over Slaithwaite Saracens at Towngate.

The black and whites posted hat-tricks from Mick Buttrick, Ben Ashington and Andy Quinnan, while Ben Stirk (2), Mark Frith (2), Alan Binns, Paul Coates and Phil O'Grady joined the procession to the whitewash. Coates (2), Craig Hillam (6) and Andy Naylor kicked the goals.

Bank Top Harriers are through to the semi-finals of the Andrew Bennett Trophy following a 40-6 success at Stainland Stags.

The Harriers were in excellent nick to book a date against Undercliffe next week, with the pick of the tries coming from Jason Gelder (2), Mark Bailey, Adam Gillard and prop Karl Mazurak with his first for the club following a 60-metre burst.

Clayton A are promoted from Division Six after winning 36-8 at Keighley Town A. Danny Mack (2) and a two-metre trademark from hooker Peter Milnes did the trick for the Villagers.
