National League Three North leaders Bradford & Bingley, who are at home to Preston Grasshoppers tomorrow, are worried about ring-rust.

The surprise postponement of the Bees' match at Darlington last weekend has not only extended their season to May 6 but has also robbed the promotion contenders of some much-needed momentum.

Bradford & Bingley's head coach Geoff Wappett said: "Having no rugby last week was not good.

"We play with rhythm and momentum, yet we have missed a week, played a week and missed again. Just when we need that momentum - the feeling of being on a roll - we have lost it.

"Yes, we trained last Saturday morning instead and I got a chance to look at the second team but it's not the same as having a game under our belts.

"We don't want to play league rugby in May or have a play-off in the middle of May but the latter is what we might be faced with.

"However, I have spoken to all the squad about the need to perform for another six league games. We need to secure this league and don't want to be involved in a play-off."

Another worry for Wappett is that Hoppers have played for the last three Saturdays and he said: "They haven't missed a beat and will be prepared for tomorrow as it follows on naturally from a game last weekend.

"They have some dangerous players, such as their full back Oliver Viney, who is having a great season.

"But we have faced them twice already this season and played well ourselves so we know where we have to play the game.

"They can obviously run points in but they do concede them and overall we were good value for our two wins."

Wappett added: "Preston are realistically out of the promotion race but I don't know if their league position will change how they approach the game. They might relax and, having no fear of losing, they might just lift their game. They present us with an interesting challenge."

Wappett is not expecting any injury problems so his main question is where to include centre Stuart Dixon, who has had a few run-outs with the second team after a groin operation.

Wibsey hope to make their sponsors' day go with a swing by defeating Old Rishworthians in Yorkshire Five North West. However, the hosts are without prop Bob Wood, who tore a calf muscle getting out of the bath on Monday.
