It was full steam ahead at the weekend as over 1,000 model railway enthusiasts from across the country travelled to see the Keighley Model Railway Club's 31st exhibition.

Well known model railway layouts were on show both Saturday and Sunday, including the Keighley 7mm group's Runswick Bay (O gauge), which last year featured in an episode of Granada TV programme Where the Heart Is.

Other layouts on display were Moorcock Junction (N gauge) and Whiteadder Junction (EM gauge).

There was also trade support and catering on the two days.

Club secretary Mick McNamara said: "Attendance figures for the last few years have been slightly up but this year the increase is 15 per cent, which is a really pleasant surprise and hopefully bodes well for the future of the hobby."

Keighley Town Mayor Councillor Tony Wright attended the event and awarded trophies to the winners of the different layout categories, including best small layout and best scenic details on a layout.

The overall layout winner went to Runswick Bay, which was also voted best layout by the public.

Member John Stokes was voted the best contributor to the club for the second year running by the other members.

Club chairman Charles Oldroyd thanked all the exhibitors, traders and club members for all their continued support in making the event a success.

Sponsors were Anchor Self Drive Hire, Walker Office Products and the Brewery Arms.
