Schools across Keighley could be forced to close over looming strike action on Tuesday.

Unison is organising the protests which will see over 400 local government workers, including many school workers, go on strike over Government moves to change their pension rights. Phil Green, Bradford Council's director for education, said: "We are aware that some schools will have to close, and where this is the case head teachers will inform parents as soon as possible."

Chris Jenkinson, the Unison regional officer for Yorkshire and Humberside, said: "In our opinion if the caretaker and non-teaching staff leave, the school can't manage safely.

"We are advising that schools do a risk assessment and really schools should close on the 28th, but that is clearly a matter for the head teacher and local bodies to decide.

"All of the local government staff in Keighley will be on strike. People are angry -- the Government is treating local government staff as second class workers in the job sector."
