CONTROVERSY marred the opening round of the British BikeTrial Championships at the weekend.
But that did not deflect from a strong and successful outing for local riders at the Addingham Moorside event.
Leading the hopes for the Keighley district were Aire Valley Cycle riders Wayne Mahomet and Chris Akrigg.
And despite a very strong field, Chris managed to finish fourth with Wayne in fifth in the elite 'masters' section
However, it is likely both riders will be bumped up a place as winner Andrie Burton is likely to be disqualified following an unintentional breach of rules regarding his bike's gears/shifters.
Wayne, 22, said: "I was happy enough with fifth. It was a good result. There were 12-15 riders in our class and they're all a very high standard."
Elsewhere, Chris Boyes finished a marvellous first in the cadet class with fellow Aire Valley team-mate Tom Feeley finishing 8th overall.
Youngster Robbie Peacock also finished first in his poussin class on a day that saw the highest number of entrants for three years.
The championships now moves on to Kelly Farm in Devon for the next round taking place on April 16.
