A STEADY stream of people visited Menston Primary School last Wednesday to express their views about two future village housing developments to a team of consultants.

Menston Community Association chairman Peter Ward said between 80 to 100 villagers turned up for the drop-in session to discuss issues regarding future housing sites off Derry Hill and Bingley Road, which will bring an additional 500 new homes to Menston.

The consultants, who were hired by Bradford Council and include planners, architects and traffic consultants, will compile a design brief to give to developers.

Mr Ward said the consultants were pleased with the sensible and practical suggestions given by residents.

Wharfedale ward councillor Chris Greaves added: "It was a steady stream, so the consultants could talk with people one on one. They were pleased with the comments and the level of engagement."

Menston Parish Church vicar, the Rev Ruth Yeoman, said she appreciated the opportunity to meet with the consultants.

She raised a number of issues including parking near the train station, but also the impact that 500 new homes would have on local schools.

She pointed out that the consultants were also particularly interested in the use of church halls.

Ms Yeoman said: "We take for granted how the local churches are used. We've all got good-sized congregations, but it's how we support the people in the community as well."

l The next Derry Hill and Bingley Road consultation will be held on Saturday, April 22, at Kirklands Community Centre, Menston. The drop-in session takes place from 11am to 4pm.
