YOUNG Danny Care, who has been catapulted to the forefront of international rugby sevens, emerged from the Commonwealth Games with a silver medal.

The young Leeds Tykes player was in the England squad which lost out to New Zealand in the final as they battled for the gold medals.

Former Prince Henry's GS pupil Danny from Adel said after the final: "The whole experience was amazing. There is big disappointment that we didn't get the gold but we are still happy with the silver at the end of the day.

"I was a bit frustrated not to play more but I got behind the boys and did what I could to help spur them on. This has been a great and unforgettable experience and hopefully I can take what I have learned from it back to my XVs game when I get back home."

England won all three pool game matches in Melbourne and then defeated Samoa to take them to a semi-final game against Fiji. In this they triumphed 21-14 over the current IRB Sevens leaders.

Of the 14-12 win over Australia in the pool games the 19 year-old scrum-half said: "The match was awesome. Australia deserve full credit for how they played, and how well they defended. But in the end we had that little extra bit of fitness and knowledge of the game which helped us through. I was so nervous when they took the conversion and was so pleased when they missed!

"I enjoyed the first match against the Cook Islands - it was really physical but felt good to get that one out the way. And then I enjoyed Sri Lanka and we got the result we wanted."

Care has been named in the England U-19 squad for the IRB U-19 World Championships in Dubai starting on March 27with the final on April 21.
