A Haworth family business received an unusual visitor last Thursday afternoon.

The Bishop of Bradford, the Right Rev David James, toured Airedale Springs Ltd on Ebor Lane.

It was the second of several visits the Bishop is making this year to companies throughout the Diocese of Bradford.

He had previously visited the offices of the Bradford and Bingley.

A spokesman for the diocese said the visits were designed to allow the Bishop to meet employers and employees and understand how businesses contribute to the local community.

Tim Parkinson, chairman of Airedale Springs, said he and his 50 staff had been looking forward to meeting the Bishop.

He said the Rt Rev James was shown the traditional craft skills as well as the modern technology used to make the springs.

He said: "It went very well - the Bishop seemed to enjoy it.

"We gave him a tour -- showed him the products and the machinery we are using and he met some of the employees."

Airedale Springs is a 60-year-old firm which has customers such as luxury Bentley Motor Cars and Daimler on its books.
