A mystery woman, her little dog and a man are picking up litter in Silsden for free and more and more people in the town would like to thank them for the job they do.

It is thought the woman lives in Tufton Street and early Sunday and Monday mornings she has been seen picking up litter by the war memorial, in the park and near the beck across from the Rocks and Ramps Park.

The man has been seen clearing litter in St James's Church yard.

Silsden councillor Pat Bottomley has been told about the trio by the resident Silsden litter man and is keen to find out who they are so she can personally thank them.

Cllr Bottomley said: "I would like to thank the woman on behalf of Silsden Youth Council and Silsden Town Council. I think she is working really hard for Silsden and is an excellent role model for all of us.

"Thanks also must go to the man for clearing the church yard. He must have worked very hard and I hope that young people seeing his good work will stop to think when throwing down litter. However, it is not always young people who are at fault."

The Rev Peter Greenwood, the vicar at St James's Church, said he had not specifically seen any one man cleaning up the church yard but had noticed a number of people taking the time out to clean up litter around the church.

He said: "There are some good-natured folk who clean up litter in the church yard, but I just don't know about anyone specifically. I am just very grateful to every one who does do it."

Cllr Bottomley is hoping that the hardworking three will join her and the Silsden Youth Council for the Beck Bash tomorrow, when they will be cleaning up the stream. She added: "It would be nice to meet them."
