Thieves took gardening equipment belonging to the Friends of Oakworth Park on Wednesday night.

The raiders forced their way into a storage building in the park and took goods worth over £1,100.

The items -- two hedge trimmers, two strimmers and a chain saw-- were obtained earlier this year thanks to a grant from Bradford-based CNet.

The theft was discovered yesterday by Friends' vice-chairman Keith Wright.

He said: "I am as sick as a parrot. This is not just a theft from our group, but from the whole community. The equipment was virtually brand new and had barely been used."

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Keighley police on 01535 617059.
