TOP name DJs and club nights are arriving in Skipton through its newest nightspot.

Exclusive late evening music venue Rooder will open next month.

The club, which is a converted top floor room at the Rendezvous Hotel on Keighley Road, will be run by Charlie Weaving, the son of the hotel's proprietors, Malcolm and Karen.

They took over Rendezvous, formerly Hanover International Hotel, at the end of 2004 and embarked on an extensive overhaul of the building.

The name of the venue highlights its link with Rood, a bar in Barrowford, which Charlie also manages.

Twenty-two-year-old Charlie told the Herald: "Rooder will not be a nightclub in the traditional sense. Our aim is to make it a top class venue for special events such as retro clubnights.

"Rooder will bring some of the biggest names in worldwide DJ-ing to Skipton, meaning that people from the surrounding area will no longer have to travel to Leeds, Sheffield or Manchester for a top night out.

"We want Rooder to put Skipton on the map."

He is drawing on his experience of visiting nightclubs and venues across the world, something he has been able to do through his work as an international model.

He is signed to the Storm model agency in London and is also a party organiser.

Charlies explained: "As a model, I have visited some of the world's best known venues and when in London, I worked at clubs China White, Attica and Browns where I was able to pick up some great ideas that I believe will now make Rooder the best venue around."

He added that Rooder would not be in competition with Skipton's long established nightclub, Strata, which is in the town centre.

He explained: "What we're aiming to do is very different. We are about special events in an elite setting.

"It's possible to arrive in the afternoon, use the hotel's leisure facilities, eat steak or lobster in the canal-side restaurant, chill and then go to Rooder knowing that when you're tired, your bedroom is nearby.

"This is the future of clubbing as I see it. It's very much the London route which we're bringing to Yorkshire."

As it only has limited capacity, Rooder is aiming at an elite clientele.

The first of its special events, on Sunday April 16, will be the "Paul & Charlie's Retro House Party" with top DJ Paul Taylor, who regularly features on Radio One, and chart star Abigail Bailey, who sings the lyrics on the track "Just Can't Get Enough".

Retro is currently the biggest club draw in the UK.

Tickets for the event are priced at £25 each or £60 per person with overnight accommodation at the Rendezvous Hotel, based on two people sharing and with chilled champagne as a welcome gift in the room and inclusive of breakfast.

Tickets and/or rooms can be obtained by telephoning the Rendezvous on 01756 700100, Rood on 01282 616006 or visiting the website www.roodbar.co.uk.
