A CARLETON woman will tackle a 200-kilometre horse trek across a remote part of Central Mongolia this summer to raise funds for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Kathryn Stickney is aiming to raise at least £3,000 for the charity, which provides lifesaving donors for patients in need of a bone marrow transplant.

She decided to take on the challenge after the Anthony Nolan Trust helped to save the life of her friend Mark Worrall, 32, who was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia.

He received a transplant in 2004 and has since been given the all clear.

Kathryn will kickstart her fundraising on Tuesday March 28, with a cheese and wine evening at Nosh brasserie and bar in Skipton.

Tickets cost £12.50 with at least 60 per cent going to the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Nosh proprietor Darren Dunn and other staff members have agreed to work for free on the night, meaning even more money can be donated to the cause.

Kathryn will start her 10-day trek on August 25 in the remote valleys of Mongolia's Khangai mountain range.

The circular route follows rough mud tracks in a part of Mongolia not normally visited by tourists. There are no facilities for the trekkers and all nights will be spent camping.

"I am really looking forward to my challenge, but it is going to be hard work raising all the money and I will need all the help I can get," said Kathryn.

Anyone wanting tickets for the cheese and wine evening should contact Nosh at 1 Devonshire Place, Skipton, tel 01756 700060.
