A SPLASHING time was had by the pupils of Parkside School as they swam to success in a recent tournament.

The Bingley Swimming Club Schools Gala was held last month with dozens of swimmers -- from all over the Keighley district, as well as Bingley and Shipley -- taking part in the event.

But it was Parkside School who came up trumps in the secondary school categories, returning to Keighley with a two from two trophy haul.

Up against rival senior schools Oakbank and Bingley Grammar School, the Parkside pool lovers won both their events.

Gala organiser, Maureen Morley, who is also finance officer at Parkside, said: "It was a very successful day and Parkside came away with both trophies from their events.

"As well as the gala trophy, Parkside also won the mixed schools relay team event.

"All in all there were three senior schools taking part and around 20 primary schools.

"Each school sent about 10-15 swimmers each so it's a big event."

So popular has the gala proved, especially at junior school age, that the organisers had to hold semi-final events over two weekends prior to the finals last month.
