IT WILL be far from an easy ride for a host of Keighley competitors this weekend as the British Bike Trial Championship gets underway at Addingham Moorside.

BikeTrial -- the fastest growing area of mountain biking in the UK -- is said to be the ultimate test of skill with spectacular moves on courses that can be hazardous and potentially dangerous to riders.

Around 15-20 riders from the Keighley and Bingley area, many competing under the Aire Valley Cycles banner, will be doing their best to navigate the obstacles before them this weekend.

And leading the charge for honours will be Wayne Mahomet, who works for Aire Valley Cycles.

Wayne, 22, has stepped up a class this year from 'expert' to 'masters' after performing well in the championships last year.

But he, and fellow Keighley competitor Chris Akrigg, will face stiff competition with riders from Kent, Scotland and Devon making up the numbers in the first championship event of five around the UK.

Following the Addingham Moorside event this Sunday, the competition moves to Devon with further events taking place in Lancashire and Surrey.

Wayne said: "It should be a fantastic event but there are a lot of good riders in the expert class so it will be really tough.

"I'm aiming for the podium, that's my goal, and Chris should definitely be on the podium as well."

Wayne is also due to take part in world events in Marseille, the Isle of Wight and possibly Japan and Singapore this year.
