NEARLY 250 brave athletes gathered from all corners of the UK last weekend to take part in the annual Wuthering Hike/Haworth Hobble.
Organised by Keighley and Craven Athletics Club, runners from as far afield as Scotland and the south coast slogged it out over 31 miles of open moorland and gritstone trails, from Haworth to the Burnley border via Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.
As would be expected, athletes from the home club were out in force as both participants and event marshalls.
And they witnessed 34-year-old winner Donald Naylor celebrate a new record with a time of 3hrs 46mins 01 secs.
That time from the international runner, in his second Wuthering Hike, was emphatically better than second placed Steve Bottomley, 38, who finished in a time of 4.12.23.
Naylor, who runs for Hunters Bog Trotters, recently finished third in both the Welsh and Scottish National Cross Country Championships.
For Keighley, Chris Preston was second lady home in 4.58.19 to give the locals something to cheer about.
Paul Hindle was Keighley's first male home in 25th with 4.47.20.
