THE proposed expansion of national one to 16 teams could be given the green light today (Friday).
RFU council members are expected to vote on the matter at a meeting this afternoon.
Wharfedale president John Spencer, who will speak at the full council meeting in favour of the expansion, believes the motion will go through.
It would mean no relegation from national one to national two at the end of this season. Only one team would be relegated from national two instead of the usual three.
Three teams would still come up from national three which would keep the number of teams in Wharfedale's league at 14 for next season.
The RFU council voted against league enlargement across the board until clubs throughout the pryamid structure have been consulted.
Spencer, who is a member of the RFU management board, said: "The people who voted against that were not against the principle. They were against it going through immediately as they thought there'd been insufficient consultation.
"But the FDR (First Division Rugby) expansion doesn't affect clubs below level four."
