A Haworth company has won a £1 million contract to supply insignia to UK military forces over the next four years.
Wyedean Weaving Company beat off strong international competition to secure the MoD contract for rank markings, epaulettes and embroidered badges. The products will be worn by members of the armed services on everyday uniform and for ceremonial occasions.
Wyedean - one of only a handful of worsted weaving companies still operating in Yorkshire - has in recent years won long-term Government contracts, securing business well into the next decade.
And its claims to fame include producing the naval insignia worn by Russell Crowe in the movie Master and Commander.
Also, three years ago the firm was visited by the Duke of Kent after it supplied medal ribbons commemorating the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Managing director Robin Wright said: "This latest contract wasn't just about price - it recognises our commitment to quality control and our innovation in terms of order management, including a secure web-based order tracking service.
"It is the result of a true team effort from all parts of the business, and I would like to pay tribute to all of our staff for the efforts they have made in winning such an important contract."
