They may be the bottom two teams in the Keighley & District Table Tennis League's First Division but the clash between Ukrainian 'B' and visitors Embassy 'B' served up some top class entertainment.

For Ukrainian's, Peter Holbrook played very well to earn his team full points, defeating Neil Foley 9-11, 14-12, 11-9, 7-11, 11-7 and then getting the better of Tom Lacey 11-7, 11-9, 11-2 and Geoff Bartlett 11-6, 13-11, 11-6. Further points were added to the home side's tally with defeats of Lacey by both Jerry Harkawy 11-8, 11-4, 12-10 and Stef Szczur 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8. Embassy hit back, initially through Foley who won against Harkaway 11-4, 11-5, 11-9 and Szczur 11-3, 13-11, 11-5. Inspired by his skipper, Bartlett also got the better of Harkawy 11-9, 12-10, 11-8 and Szczur 5-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 and then the two Embassy stalwarts teamed up to earn a 5-5 draw with a superb win in the doubles, 11-6, 12-10, 11-6 against Holbrook and Harkawy.

Cononley Sports are not having a particularly happy time in Division Two. This week they firstly entertained Lothersdale 'B' in a match that saw the visitor's Martin Connolly put together a useful max that included a win against Michael Mitchell 12-14, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8. Frazer Krischke added a couple more against Mitchell and Eric Hudson 11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-4 and a win for Peter Midgley 11-9, 11-9, 14-12 against Hudson ensured a 6-4 win for Lothersdale. Paul Lister played well for Cononley with a couple against Krischke 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8 and Midgley before teaming up with Mitchell to add the doubles 12-10, 1-11, 14-12, 11-8 against Krischke and Connolly.

Following this, the Cononley Sportsmen visited Nemesis and started well with a win for Mitchell 9-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-4 against Worger. However the only other bright spot for the away team came in game 6 when Lister added a point against Les Packer. For Nemesis, Dave Manogue was superb with his full house including a win against Mitchell 11-8, 11-7, 12-14, 11-8 as his team powered to an 8-2 success that puts them top of the pile.

In Division Three, everything seems to be coming up roses for Ilkley Road 'A' who overwhelmed a John Pullen-less Johnson & Johnson and raced to a 10-0 success which powers the Riddlesden outfit 19 points clear at the top. Steve Barton was particularly good value for his treble which included the defeat of Derek Stanforth 11-6, 11-6, 4-11, 11-4.

Division Four looks like developing into an intriguing contest with the top four teams having realistic pretensions of being Champions. Lothersdale Juniors kept in touch with top spot with a quality 8-2 win at Fastbats 'C'. Once again John Lindle was on imperious form with only Jak Katterfield pushing him beyond three before finally succumbing 7-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-9. Good support was evident from Tom Morgan and Emma Lindle with a couple each. Consolation for Fastbats came in the shape of a win for Ben Huggan against Morgan 11-5, 2-11, 11-9, 11-8 and another for Katterfield 11-7, 11-5, 5-11, 11-5 against Emma Lindle.

In Division Five Oakbank maintained their single point lead over Fastbats 'B' with a resounding win at home to St Wilf's. Jennifer Denby was outstanding for the home side with her three wins including the defeat of John Jennison 13-11, 14-12, 6-11, 11-13, 11-7 in an absolute thriller. Steve Flockton and Alan Pearson both defeated Pam Gabe and Mary Lister before Flockton and Denby inflicted further damage in the doubles 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 against Jennison and Gabe to wrap up an 8-2 success for the title challengers.

Hot on their heels come Fastbats 'B' who matched the leaders with the same scoreline at home to Embsay. Top player was Simon Collinson who took his tally to 10 from 12 with an excellent full house that included a win against Trevor Wilkinson 10-12, 10-12, 11-4, 11-8, 12-10.
