Cougar Cubs Under 15's 16 Townville Tigers 10 - Cougars took the points in the battle of the big cats.

Both teams started this game level on points at the top of the table, having only lost one game each.

After a hectic first five minutes Tigers center Williamson cut through the home defence to score near the posts leaving McCurdie an easy conversion. The Cubs hit back two minutes later Carlos finishing off a good passing move in the corner.

Mid-way through the half the Cubs secured the lead when Anderton crossed the line. Haythornthwaite gave the home side a 12-6 lead at the interval.

The second half was just as intense with the visitors scoring first, McCurdie crossing too far out to convert his own try.

Four minutes from time when Kelly stabbed a grubber through for Cawood to touch down under the posts. Burton hit the post with his conversion attempt, when the two extra points would have put his side eight points clear. In the nail-biting finish Townville pressured to the final whistle.

After 10 minutes the Cubs started to get on top with tries from Jack Copperwaite (2), Matty Bailey and Ethan Hawkesworth to take a comfortable half time lead of 18-0.

Clayton came out in the second half determined and took the first score.

Any thoughts of a comeback were crushed when Matty Bailey scored his second try from long range, and near the end Ethan Hawkesworth jinked and weaved his way through several attempted tackles for his second try.

There were determined tackling stints from Bradley Dobson, and Tom Cunningham in his first game for the club.

Halifax Vandals Under 13s 0

Cougar Cubs 48

The Under-13s were a class above Halifax Vandals in a completely one-sided match.

Ben Steads' lengthy kick off and every subsequent kick he made pressurised the Vandals into mistake after mistake. On a narrow pitch that really did not suit the Cubs normally expansive game, the Cougars gave lessons in solid defence, snuffing out any potential attacks with consummate ease.

Martyn Broadley bagged a try in both halves to maintain an excellent scoring record, with Spencer and Stead both chipping in with a brace of tries in what turned out to be a training run for the Cubs helping Conor Caveney and Gwyn Drysdale both settle back into the swing of things in their first run out for a number of weeks.

The scoring continued with neat runs from Shabir and Tattersall Jarvis producing power play tries that even better teams would struggle to contain. Perhaps the try of the match was scored by man of the match Josh Lynam who took an inside pass from Spencer at pace to sprint in from 30 yards.

Whilst Halifax Vandals showed promise at times, the Cubs were far too strong and in no mood to gift any chance of a score.
