Northern Plant Hire Cup: Grassington 3 Oxenhope 2 (Extra time) Oxenhope's attempt to see the club's two teams reach five cup semi-finals failed in the mud at Grassington.

In a scrappy game Oxenhope had given themselves a two-goal advantage with 20 minutes to play, thanks to goals from Chris Smith and Joel Gallagher.

Smith found himself with a one-on-one on the Grassington keeper that would have put the game beyond doubt, but he blazed his shot against the crossbar. Gargrave went straight down the pitch and scored the goal that gave them a lifeline.

Until then Oxenhope had played controlled football, but nerves tightened and Grassington scored a controversial equaliser to send the time into extra time.

The home side took advantage of their sloping pitch and sent long balls from defence for their strikers to run onto. The tactic paid dividends and secured a 3-2 advantage at the end f the first period.

Oxenhope threw everything at them in the second period, but could not find that elusive equaliser.

Manager Mick Butterfield's young second team go from strength to strength, taking the scalp of Rolls Royce with a decisive 3-0 victory. The result puts Oxenhope reserves in the top six in Division One.

Chris Day ran onto a through ball to score the opener and Liam Gill produced a superb solo effort to give the Worth Valley side a 2-0 advantage at half time. The second half was a tight affair until the manager threw on all three substitutes, a move that proved to be the turning point.

Jim Bailey's fresh legs took him down the right and his cross found Liam Dyson who thumped the ball into the roof of the net for a deserved three points.

n This Saturday, weather permitting, Oxenhope can gain revenge on Grassington at home in the Premier Division, while the Reserves travel to Skipton Town.
