Steeton 1 Littletown 2 - Steeton suffered yet another set back with this defeat, which sees the top two teams pulling away with games running out.

They were made to pay for missed chances and were caught out from set pieces in each half.

The homesters should have been a goal up in the first few minutes when debutant Dale Hoyle's cross was headed goalwards by Lee Barker, only to see it clawed back by the keeper. Littletown weathered the early storm and looked dangerous on the break.

They took the lead when Steeton conceded a free kick 25 yards out. The resulting kick was fired into the top corner with 'keeper McGuinness rooted to the spot.

Lee Barker caused the Littletown defence problems with surging runs down the flank.

Finally Steeton got their reward when skipper Hockey's through ball found Steve Barker who fired his into the far corner to level the scores.

The second period started with Steeton exerting pressure and again they came close when Danny Head hit the angle of post and crossbar with a rasping drive. Soon after this Hoyle was put through and raced into the box with only the keeper to beat, but pulled his shot wide.

Twenty minutes into the half, Steeton conceded a throw-in deep into their own half. The Littletown long throw specialist hurled a throw into the six-yard box and the half-cleared ball found a Littletown forward who scored from close range.

Steeton battled manfully to get back on terms and manager Paul Ettenfield made a double substitution, throwing both Hollindrake and Gilmartin into the fray. Gilmartin had an immediate impact with his cross from the right picking out his strike partner from their Phoenix days, Dale Hoyle, whose powerful header struck the bar and came back out to safety.

They started to hammer in long balls in a desperate attempt to salvage a point and were thwarted several times by the Town keeper who punched away anything dangerous.

Tyersal Res 3

Steeton Res 2

After last weeks poor performance in the Keighley Cup, manager Roy Mason demanded a much improved performance against a strong Tyersal side. Despite the result the performance was much improved and the Summerhill Lane side were unlucky not to come away with at least a share of the points.

With injuries to key players and first team call-up they were again forced to shuffle the pack, with veteran keeper Heath Maddocks coming into the side.

Steeton started off brightly and went close through both Chris Fothergill and Dave Cook. Tyersal also had their moments and found both Craig Stephens and Anthony Foulger in commanding form at the back.

With Alex Fleming and Andy Lamb winning the battle in midfield it was no surprise when Steeton took the lead after Chris Turner unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

The lead didn't last long as Steeton conceded a needless free kick from which an unmarked Tyersal striker headed home.

A flying save from Maddocks kept the scores level at half time.

The second half saw Tyersal put Steeton under pressure and Ian Wellock had his work cut out at left back.

Gradually Steeton started to work some opportunities and Dave Cook forced the keeper into a flying save, before Ashley Nettleton's header was also tipped around the post. In a rare venture into the visitors' half Roy Mason also fired in a shot that flashed past the post.

Steeton were then caught with a sucker punch Tyersale scored two quick goals and held out for victory.

This week they entertain Campion at Summerhill Lane, kick off 2.30pm.
