Liam O'Reilly produced an explosive contest at the recent boxing dinner show organised by Keighley Amateur Boxing Club and Keighley Albion ARLFC.

O'Reilly (above) suffered a cut to the bridge of his nose in the second round against W Hopkins of Liverpool. He battled through a mask of blood to take a points decision and pick up the Danny Whitaker Memorial Trophy and Boxer of the Night award.

Keighley boxers featured in eight of the 11 bouts with mixed results, and controversy over the standard of refereeing.

Ben Pickles in his debut bout won comfortably against A Foster of Barnsley after boxing well behind a good jab.

Vincent Narey gave away weight and experience to J Haigh of Hull and lost narrowly on points. Blaine Moore lost in controversial manner to D Ambler of Barnsley when his opponent slapped his way to a stoppage without landing a clean punch.

Danny Whittake gave away age and height to K Grey of Sheffield, but boxed superbly to win a unanimous decision. Tom Stell boxed below his full potential and lost on points to L Taylor of Sheffield.

Nathan Brearley lost on points to A Akhtar of Leeds after a memorable crowd pleaser which swung both ways until the final bell. John Shaw in his first bout went at L Donelly of Liverpool like a aging bull, but his lack of experience showed in the final round when his corner had to throw in the towel. John shows great promise for the future.
