Timperley 1

Ben Rhydding 6

RAMPANT Ben Rhydding hit Timperley for six in this North Premier League fixture. The Cheshire outfit had no answer to a second-half blitz.

In a disciplined team effort Ben Rhydding performed with confidence, verve and no little skill.

The opening 20 minutes were evenly matched and gave no indication of the mayhem to follow.

Travis Taylor opened the scoring from an acute angle to give the Yorkshiremen the lead but Timperley deservedly equalised when their New Zealand professional fired an unstoppable penalty corner in off the underside of the bar.

Indeed Ben Rhydding were indebted to the sharp reactions of goalkeeper Phil Weaver and the watchfulness of centre-back Danny Foster.

On the stroke of half-time Rhydding gained a key psychological advantage. Johnny Schofield's shot posed no real danger but was deflected into his own net by a Timperley defender.

Thereafter Rhydding ran riot. With midfielders Neil Sugden and Mike Rippon pulling the strings Rhydding's lively forwards proved unstoppable. Further goals from Schofield, Matt Bell (2) and a trademark short corner from Rippon were just reward for incessant pressure.

Timperley pressed the self-destruct button when they had a player dismissed for violent conduct and the Ilkley outfit took full advantage of the extra man.

Skipper Sugden was a happy man saying: "We're on a roll. Long may it continue!"
