West Bowling centre Tim Sutcliffe scored a first-half hat-trick in the sparkling 30-12 National Conference Division One success at York Acorn.

Sutcliffe impressed the watching Yorkshire county selectors when he broke clear from 30 metres out and handed off to touch down and then rubbed further salt into the wound by intercepting an Acorn pass to race in for another long-range special.

His third was a more sedate effort when he was first to reach a scrambling ball and with full back Lee Innes slotting over three goals, West's went into the break 18-0 up.

Loose forward Danny Ramsden kept the scoreboard ticking over when he followed up his own kick before the hosts regained some pride with two unconverted tries.

Second row forward Ricky Helliwell emphasised Bowling's superiority on the day when he crossed and Innes completed a full house with the boot.

A late Acorn score made little difference as Bowling warmed up in convincing style for their Odsal Stadium Challenge Cup date against Keighley Cougars.

Queensbury suffered a shock 16-10 Pennine League Premier Division defeat at bottom-of-the-table Keighley Town. Bury, who are in the injury doldrums, had to rely on touchdowns from veteran forward Gary Prentice and centre Gareth Hobson, with Bob Smith adding a conversion.

Victoria Rangers' fortunes look to be on the up despite a 40-6 setback at Dudley Hill in Division One.

The Vics did everything but score in the first half and only trailed 16-0 at the break. Hooker Ray Greenwood scampered over on the restart with brother Phil adding the extras but a very strong Hill outfit ran away with the game in the last quarter.

Props Alan Smith and Beniot Rogers were the best on the day for the Rangers.

Birkenshaw lost 44-0 at home to table-toppers Halifax Irish.

Second-row forward Paul Bancroft was a tower of strength for Birky, closely followed by veteran Johnny Turpin in a lost cause against an Irish side that has now kept a clean sheet for four weeks on the trot. West Bowling A are still in bottom place after losing 38-6 at New Earswick. Bowling were out of the race, trailing 20-0 at the halfway mark, but a 60-metre special from centre Chris Curtain was a heartening respite.

Undercliffe lost ground in the Division Three title race, losing 22-10 at Rotherham Roosters, and Bank Top Harriers came a close second, 36-24 at home to leaders Morley Borough. Jason Gelder, Ben Thompson, Mark Bailey, Dan Oldfield and Adam Gillard crossed for the Harriers.

Wyke's march towards the Division Four crown continued with a 31-20 win at Slaithwaite Saracens. Wily old campaigner Craig Hillam led the way with a try, five conversions and a drop goal.

Ian Watkinson, Paul Coates, Alan Binns and Paul Bapty joined him on the score-sheet.
