Last weekend's disappointing performance was tempered slightly by the
display of two up-and-coming players and it has prompted some radical thinking by the management team.
Manager Ray Price is assisted in his duties by Steve Watson, who is the Acad-emy's head coach.
The pair appear to have decided to put
the 'old guard' of the first-team squad under pressure by giving the youngsters more opportunities.
"We have told the regulars to take a long look at themselves and I think the
time has come for us as a club to plan ahead and have a closer look at
these younger players," said Price.
"There were a couple of Academy
players in the side last Saturday and they
gave the older lads something to think about.
"We are not in a good position
at the moment and we have to make sure we get the mix right because we still
need positive results. But these young
lads want to play and they are doing it for the club. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
"Danny Backhouse and Luke Hudson were two who caught the eye in the defeat at Selby Town.
"It was a pity James Hanson wasn't
playing as well because if he had been we would have shown a lot more up front. He would have been in the side if he hadn't got injured playing for his college side on the Friday night."
