Last week was a long overdue good one for Avenue, with positive news coming from every direction, and to cap it manager Gary Brook issued a message of hope to the club's supporters.

Last Saturday's very creditable draw at Whitby Town ended a run of seven straight defeats in the UniBond Prem-ier Division.

The following day it was

announced that on-loan defen-der Paul Haworth was well.

A car accident on his way to the match had prevented him taking part. The vehicle was a write-off but he was uninjured.

The draw for the President's

Cup semi-final paired Avenue with Brigg Town, the only First Division outfit left in the competition.

Damian Dunne finished his three-game suspension, Tom Agus returned from injury

and the new signings continued to settle in. The flags are

certainly now flying high at Horsfall Stadium.

"The dressing room was buzzing after the Whitby game and the players had a spring in their step at training this week," said boss Brook.

"That buzz came, not from the point, though every one is welcome, but because they have proved to themselves that they can do it.

"They came back from 2-0 and 3-1 down against one of the teams still in with a chance of the play-offs.

"The players have to show that same character from now until the end of the season.

"If they do we will collect points along the way. There are enough games left for us to steer clear of trouble.

"We have 14 left to play. That is 42 points to play for - a

significant amount.

"We have a tough run-in and every game will be a big battle, no doubt about it. But we have the quality in the team."

The only down side of the last seven days was the hint from Scarborough that they may have to end the loan of

17-year-old Jimmy Beadle.

His last game for Avenue could be today's clash with Witton Albion.
