The head of a Bradford recruitment agency has returned to the earthquake-hit regions of Pakistan and Kashmir to see how the work carried out by his charity is going.

Ifty Hussain, 34, who runs Ethical Care Recruitment, first visited the area in the weeks following October's earthquake to see how his charity, The Orphan Child, could help survivors.

Initially, volunteers for the charity provided emergency supplies and shelter for victims

Now Mr Hussain is looking at how his charity can provide more long-term help for those still living in tents.

Back in November, The Orphan Child spent £75,000 to provide 4,300 blankets, 1,000 food parcels, 600 tents and took part in four helicopter drops. They also bought two ambulances for so volunteers could transport the injured to hospitals.

On his return to the area earlier this month, Mr Hussain met with other agencies in Islamabad, Balakot, Muzaff-arabad and Mansehra to see where The Orphan Child could now direct its support.

"We would like to be able to start building some temporary homes for widows and orphans," he said.

The estimated cost of building a house out of brick and cement with an electricity supply is around £280.

Mr Hussain said that although it had been four months since the earthquake many people were still living in tents.

"Because there have been a number of aftershocks some people still don't want to go back to their homes," he said.

"The area is starting to stabilise but life is still a struggle - but they have adapted to the difficulties."

The Orphan Child has spent a further £14,000 on semi-permanent shelters for families across Kashmir and Pakistan.

Mr Hussain is now planning to organise a series of fundraising activities so enable the building work to continue.
