Cougar Cubs 56 Hoyland Vikings Under-15s 0 - The search for a new kicker in the Under-15s seems to be over after Chris Burton landed nine goals from ten attempts in very heavy conditions.

Burton also bagged a brace of tries as the Cubs crossed the whitewash ten times, with five tries in each half.

Center Danny Carlos also scored twice and Jack Cawood grabbed a hat-trick, shaking off four would-be tacklers for his third try. Man of the match Howson timed his chase to perfection to collect Kelly's cross-field kick to score in the corner.

Simon Bolton was first to score in the second half before Ashley Menzies went over in the right hand corner. Props Young and Silson worked well in the middle while Ireland made yard after yard every time he got the ball. Mark Anderton adapted well playing out of position at scrum half.

Elland Under-13s 12

The two in-form Under-13s teams of the division met in a titanic struggle with first blood going to Elland in a strike from distance that saw their powerful centres cut through the Cubs defence.

The Cubs, however, were not going to allow Elland to steamroller them and equalised through Jamie Pickles and an impressive conversion by Chris Spencer closed the half at six points each.

The Cubs started the second half with a grit and determination that shook the Elland team. The next score was pure brilliance as centre Martyn Broadley bulldozed a track down the right wing and deftly offloaded to Luke Chapman in support who sprinted to the line to score his first try for the Cubs.

Elland started to increase the physical aspect of the game and levelled the scores.

Two months ago the Cubs may well have caved in but Chris Spencer set up an attack that brought in Aitchison, man of the match Shabir and Paul Feather. On the fifth tackle Josh Lynam kicked crossfield with precision and Lee Thompson touched down for the try of the day.

Josh Ives halted the final Elland attack and on the final whistle the Cubs knew they had won a major struggle.

Cougar Cubs 44

Wyke Under-12s 0

Anthony Garnett, playing at scrum half for the first time, looked like a seasoned pro, giving Wyke many problems. The pack, led by props Ashley Dawson and David Allen supported by Jack Mabbutt and Sam Webster, was also in command.

Matty Holroyd, playing hooker for the first time, provided plenty of opportunities for the backs, notably Alex Whitehead and man of the match Will Doveston.

Whitehead scored two tries and Doveston completed his hat-trick with other tries coming from J Mabbutt, M Holroyd and Jamie Stephenson (2).

Cougar Cubs Under-11s

There was a time when Newsome Panthers would have beaten the Cubs with a high score, but this time sthey showed real fighting spirit.

The scores were level at half time but with the Panthers then playing downhill they were able to take a grip on the game and take a slender lead.

Newsome had two key players who led them but the Cougars were playing very much as a team, encouraging each other, especially Thomas Gooding who was voted man of the match by the opposition.

The whole team played their part and tries were scored by David Meyrick (2), Devan King and Ryan Ambler

Charlotte Roberts again tackled well, Jack Halliday showed great keenness, Joe Buffey's form continues to improve and Sam Ward showed real determination.

Jerome James was Top Tackler, the Outstanding Moment award went to Josh Farkas for his tackling on the wing, and the Coach's Award went to Ryan Ambler.

Townville Tigers

Cougar Cubs Under-10s

The Cubs just could not break the home side's defence, while the Tigers seemed to score at will. There was a glimmer of hope before half time when the Cubs got over the line for their first points but the half finished with them trailing by 18 points.

They played out of their skins in the second half with man of the match Kyle Wilmot scoring a hat-trick of tires. Rory Conway scored twice and Dan Connell completing the scoring.

Kyle Akrigg took the Outstanding Effort award and the whole team defended relentlessly to stop the home sidegetting over the line in the second half. Luke Moorby led from the front picking up the Top Tackler award. The final whistle went with the Cubs comfortably in front.

Cougar cubs Wildcats 18

Halifax Vandals 30

With both teams without a league game, the Wildcats travelled to Halifax for a friendly game.

Becci Whiteley crashed over and Jade Charlton converted to give the Cubs and early lead. The home side replied with two tries before Wildcats captain Bridie Reeves broke through the home defence to score under the posts and Jade Charlton added the conversion.

Halifax scored two more times before the break and looked to be in control early nt he second period. Becci Whiteley had other ideas and set off on a storming run from inside her own half to out-pace the whole Halifax team and score under the posts. Once again the try was converted by Jade Charlton.

The home side struck back but the game had to be abandoned when Wildcats scrum-half Jade Webster badly injured her leg.
