Members of Keighley Central Judo Club travelled to the London International Judo competition at the Excel Centre at the weekend.

The event was billed as 'Dare to dream' as the Excel centre is to be the home of Judo at the 2012 Olympics.

It was the first time the club had members fighting at an international competition they were proud to walk away with one gold and two bronze medals.

Declan Walkden (11) fought in the under 56kg category and never lost a fight in his quest for gold, beating French competitors along the way.

All Declan's fights were won by Ippon (maximum points).

Sarah Haley (11) took Bronze in the under-40 kg class and Dave Shackleton (47) took Bronze in the under-90 kg seniors class.

Demi Carter had close fights in the under-43 kg class but lost before gaining a medal position. The same fate befell Jessica Copperwaite in the same class.

Colin Benzie fought well in the 100kg class

All the members of the club were proud to take part in the event in which all the different judo organisations wre represented.

The medal winners had to sign a plaque after the medal ceremony, which will be added to every year leading up to the 2012 Games.

Last weekend Declan Walkden went on to take silver in the Over-50k open section and Demi Carter won silver in the Under-40k. Sarah Hayley won bronze in the Under-36k section despite breaking a toe early in the competition at the british Judo Association Open competition at Knottingly.
