Free-scoring Andy Smith has refused a move to Castleford Tigers, insisting: "I'm going to fight my way into the Bulls side."

The powerful winger scooped an astonishing SEVEN tries for the Senior Academy side against Harlequins, having already grabbed a hat-trick at Wakefield.

Such form has alerted struggling Cas, who are in need of a wideman, and recognised Smith was out of the first-team picture at Odsal.

But the 21-year-old immediately knocked them back and maintained he is desperate to prove his worth to the Super League champions.

"Nobby (Brian Noble) asked if I was interested but I turned them down straight away and told the coaching staff here I'm not going anywhere," he revealed.

"I've got my heart and head set on playing for Bradford and no one else."

With Lesley Vainikolo, Marcus Bai, Karl Pryce and Marcus St Hilaire all challenging for wing berths, as well as teenage flier Dave Halley, Smith's opportunities could be few and far between.

He broke into the Bulls side in 2004, making eight appearances, but managed just six more last year and concedes his development stuttered.

"I was very disappointed last year with how it went," said Smith, who spent four games on loan at Friday's visitors Salford.

"I think the coaches were expecting something big out of me so I owe them as well and now I want to get back to where I should be.

"I've been working as hard as I can to have a big year.

"People have been writing me off and saying I'm back in the pecking order but I'm fighting my way back to get into that team.

"All the talk has inspired me. Nobby didn't take me to Lanzarote and he knows that it spurs me on.

"It's a challenge but it's what I want. I made my debut in my first year when I didn't even have a squad number and now I want to prove people wrong again."

The strong-running Smith - out of contract at the end of this season - could soon force Noble's hand.

Vainikolo is still struggling with a knee injury and 19-year-old understudy Pryce has yet to cement the Kiwi's slot.

"My goal is to step in to Les's position if he's not fit but also if Marcus Bai is not playing well, hopefully I can get a shot on the right wing as well," said the Wakefield-born player, still stunned by his heroics at the weekend.

"I've never scored seven tries in one match before and it was pretty strange.

"Quins weren't as strong as I thought they'd be and as the game went on, gaps just started appearing."

Noble said: "Andy's into the squad for Friday and in contention for a place.

"He's got ten tries in two games and has the bit between his teeth at the moment, so we need to have a look at him.

"Cas really want him and if Andy doesn't get an opportunity here we need to look at what we can do as the best thing by him. But just now he's fighting really hard for a place here."
