Cougar Cubs Under-15s 26 Slaithwaite 12 - A very lethargic performance from the Cubs saw them struggle in the early part of the game. They missed tackle after tackle until Josh Ireland crashed through to score ten minutes into the game and repeated the feat seven minutes later. Chris Burton followed his lead just before the break, Danny Cartledge converting to give the home side a 14-0 lead.

The Cubs began the second period moving the ball well and Mark Anderton slid through the defence to score.

The visitors hit back straight away through Nathan Shaw and pounded the home line for ten minutes before a good counter attacking move by the Cubs ended with Charlie Eccleston crossing for a well taken try.

Eccleston's centre partner Jack Cawood was next to score giving his side a 20-point cushion, before a try and goal three minutes from time made the score look more respectable for the visitors.

Kings Cross 0

In terrible conditions the Cubs and King Cross worked very hard to play decent rugby but defences were on top in the first half . The Cubs were only able to break the deadlock near the end of the half as Matty Bailey managed to squeeze in at the corner for the Cubs to turn round 4-0 up.

In the second half the Cubs controlled the ball better and the extra possesion kept the pressure on King Cross. They grew in confidence and two long range tries, and one from short range, from Matty Bailey put the game beyond reach. The points were wrapped when Will Garside reacted quickest to scramble in from four yards out after a scrappy play the ball.

The key to the win was the Cubs' defence as some big hits out wide from Scott Cunningham and Phil Jennings shook the King Cross players.

Elland 24

Cubs Under-13s 22

The Cubs took advantage of the wicked Elland slope and open up a 22-point lead in the first 15 minutes with pressure kicks from Ben Stead and Chris Spencer forcing defensive errors.

Martyn Broadley opened the scoring following a neat passing move. Jordan Aitchison quickly followed up in the corner.

The slope allowed more pressure from the forwards Paul Feather, Wasim Shabir, Gwyn Drysdale, Jake Dunn and Aaron Tattersall Jarvis to set up territorial advantage that brought the Cubs close to the line producing a gap for Jamie Pickles to dive under the defensive line.

Conor Caveney stepped up to drive though the oppositionand set up Broadley for his second try that Stead converted despite a swirling wind.

The one-way traffic could not last and with five minutes of the half to go a Cougar passing move broke down when an Elland centre intercepted and sprinted 40-yards to give a morale-boosting converted score just before half time.

The 16-point half time advantage for the Cubs started to get whittled down in the second half as Elland began to claw back the points. They didn't have it all their own way with Broadley and Caveney trying hard to make ground up the slope.

With three minutes to go Elland nipped in for a crucial converted try that gave them a two-point lead and despite valiant efforts the Cubs could not recover the lead.
