Steeton 6 Keighley Shamrocks 0 - Steeton's super striker Stewart Airdrie played a key role of the Summerhill Lane side's demolition of local rivals Shammies in their second round County Cup game.

Steeton got off to a flying start after their first attack, when they were awarded a corner and Airdrie's driven delivery from the left was glanced in by Ricardo Falconi, who evaded his marker at the near post.

With Shammies in disarray Steeton pressed on with good passing and movement and forced a further corner on the left. Airdrie varied his delivery this time high into the heart of the Shammies six-yard box, where the towering Lee Barker hung and directed his header downward into the net for number two inside the first 15 minutes.

With Steeton firmly in command, several chances were created but spurned, in particularly when the exposed Shammies 'keeper Ryan Moore bravely smothered at Airdrie's feet as he tried to round him for number three.

Later in the half Steeton appeared to ease up and Shammies started to exert pressure, Fradley springing the offside trap only to see his shot blocked by the 'keeper's legs and Lee Barker completed the clearance off the line.

Shammies carried this forward into the second half and with the breeze at their backs pressed the homesters back, forcing a succession of corners. The nearest they came was when Brady's header was cleared off the line by Daniel Gaudiosi.

The Steeton defence held firm and started to get their passing game together again.

And after a foul wide on the right, Airdrie stepped up to take the free kick, planting a high ball deep into the Shammies box, where once again Lee Barker headed home.

After a double substitution, Steeton's fresh legs paid dividends and with the Shammies defence at sixes and sevens Steve Barker was on hand to score from close range. Following a throw-in on the left, the ball was allowed to be worked inside to Airdrie, who controlled the ball and fired his shot in for number five.

Gaudiosi who had worked tirelessly down the right was involved in the final goal as the ball was worked out to wide to Airdrie, whose driven diagonal pass was met by substitute Adam Smith's surging run and powerful finish.

Ovenden 4

Cross Hills 1

Ovenden from the West Riding County Amateur premier league were Cross Hills' opponents

Hills went into the game on the back of a good league win the previous week and were in confident mood, but the home side are renowned for their physical strength and speed in attack.

They put Hills under pressure for long spells of the first half. To their credit, Cross Hills created chances and took the lead when Matthew Lloyd picked up the ball in midfield. His initial shot was blocked but the ball came back to him on the bounce and he smashed the ball over the keeper,s head from 25-yards.

Hills maintained the lead until half time and for most of the second period in which they were under intense pressure. The midfield and defence held out against the barrage of attacks from the home team.

With 15 minutes to go however, a shot from outside the box, through a crowd of players, was parried by Greenwood back into the path of Ovenden's striker who had an empty net at his mercy to equalise.

Three players seemed to be in an offside position when the ball was struck but the referee felt t the goalkeeper had played them all back onside.

The South Craven team lost their concentration along with their discipline and six players were shown the yellow card for descent during the remaining 15 minutes. Ovenden took advantage of their disarray to score another three goals and run out comfortable winners.
