NORTH Ribblesdale and Skipton are upset at having lost considerable sums of money last weekend when both their scheduled opponents cancelled at short notice.

Ribb were looking forward to an intriguing Powergen Junior Vase third-round tie at home to unbeaten Prenton from the South Lancs/Cheshire League Four. And Skipton fans were looking forward to a home friendly against higher league opposition in the form of Yorkshire One side Wheatley Hills.

But, after both teams had spent three-figure sums on preparing for their matches - including money spent on advertising, printing programmes and catering - they were left with no one to play.

Ribb were informed mid-morning on Saturday that Prenton would not be turning up as they had insufficient front row players.

Skipton only found out less than two hours before kick-off that Wheatley Hills, who were expected to bring a 15 largely made up of former first-teamers, would not be travelling. By that time, some Skipton players had already begun warming up for the match.
