Remembrance services will be taking place across Bradford this weekend in tribute to the servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price for the nation's freedom.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Valerie Binney, and her consort Donald Binney, will be at the war memorial in the city centre for the anniversary of Armistice Day tomorrow and for a service on Sunday.

And this year the Oberburgermeis-ter of Hamm in Germany, Bradford's twin city, Herr Thomas Hunsteiger-Petermann, will accompany the Lord Mayor to Sunday's Remembrance Service.

Coun Binney, pictured, said: "This year is extra special to us as this year marked the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War two and the end of the conflict in the Far East, it also a great pleasure to welcome the Lord Mayor of Hamm, our twin city to such a special service for people throughout the Bradford district."

She added: "We want to remember all our armed forces, not just those in the past, but those in the present as well, particularly those in Iraq. Over the years our allies have been of all faiths, including the Commonwealth countries, and we want to represent all of them."

As well as representatives from the airforce, navy and armed services the Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Robin Owens will be at the Keighley event.

The Royal British Legion, which cares for former service people and their families, has organised many events. Bradford Central member Jim Hargreaves, 85, of Clayton, Bradford, said: "I was very fortunate, serving for nearly five years in the Middle East. I didn't get a scratch on me, but this day is for those who served and weren't so lucky." The Scouting and Guiding movement will be represented and Mr Hargreaves said it was important to include the younger generations. Representatives from many ethnic groups will attend the Remembrance events. "By having all the people together. It's a show of unity and togetherness which other groups would do well to imitate," Mr Hargreaves said.

And a plaque to honour a pilot killed in Iraq will be dedicated at the Remembrance Day service in Burley-in-Wharfedale on Sunday. Flight Lieutenant David Stead, 35, was posthumously awarded the Air Force Cross for flying injured people to hospital in a dangerous Afghani storm.

The service is at the Parish Church in Burley and at the war memorial.

Bradford City will be paying tribute before the match with Barnsley on Saturday to its 12 players who died fighting in the two World Wars.

Nine City players were killed in the First World War and three in the Second World War.

There will be an illustrated talk in the Bradford City Museum on Saturday at 12.30pm. A service will be held in Undercliffe cemetery on Armistice Day tomorrow to honour those who died in the First World War at 11am.

An event is being held on Remembrance Sunday in Gomersal to recapture memories of the second world war.

There will be performances, re-enactments, activities and displays at Red House Museum on Sunday between 1pm and 4pm.

Addingham: 10.45am assemble at St Peter's Church, Addingham. 11am Service of Remembrance followed by a parade to the War Memorial, Main Street, by the Memorial Hall, and wreath laying.

Allerton: 3pm - Service at Allerton War Memorial, Lady Hill Park, off Allerton Road.

Baildon: 1.15pm - Service and wreath laying ceremony at Tong Park War Memorial, Baildon. 2pm - Parade assembles at Baildon Soldiers and Sailors Club, The Shroggs, Moorgate, Baildon, for parade to Baildon Moravian Church, Browgate, and service there at 2.30pm. 3.30pm - Parade to War Memorial, Browgate, Baildon for wreath-laying ceremony.

Bingley: 10.40am - Parade assembles in the car park behind Bingley Arts Centre. 10.45am - Parade moves off and proceeds to the war memorial in Myrtle Park for a Service and wreath-laying ceremony.

Bolton Woods: 2.30pm - Service at Bolton Woods Community Centre followed by wreath-laying at the war memorial, Livingstone Road.

BRADFORD: The Lord Mayor and the Lord Mayor's Consort, Councillor Valerie Binney and Donald Binney, will attend the service at the war memorial at 11am and anyone wishing to join them should meet in the entrance foyer of City Hall at 10.30am. Following the service, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant for West Yorkshire accompanied by the Lord Mayor will take the salute at the march-past in Centenary Square.

CLAYTON: 10.30am - Service of Remembrance at The Parish Church of St John The Baptist, Clayton, followed by walk to the war memorial in Victoria Park.

Noon - Act of Remembrance and laying of wreaths.

Cullingworth: 10.30am - Remembrance Services at St John's Parish Church, Station Road, and Cullingworth Methodist Church. Following the Services, both congregations will proceed to the war memorial, Halifax Road, Cullingworth, for a joint act of remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony

Denholme: 10.45am - Assemble at the top of Parkinson Road for parade to the war memorial in Foster Park for an Act of Remembrance and wreath-

laying at 11am and at 11.15am, following the two minutes' silence, people will make their way to Denholme Edge Church for a Service of Remembrance.

Eccleshill: 2.30pm - Parade assembles at the lower end of Eccleshill Recreation Ground and proceeds to Eccleshill War Memorial. 3pm - Remembrance Service and wreath-laying at the War Memorial in the Recreation Ground, Stonehall Road, Eccleshill.

Haworth: 10.45am - Remembrance Service at St Michael and All Angels Church, Main Street, Haworth. Following service Congregation to make their way down Main Street to the war memorial for Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony.

Ilkley: 3pm - Remembrance service and wreath-laying in the Memorial Gardens, The Grove, Ilkley.

KEIGHLEY: 9.30am - Parade assembles at Russell Street, Keighley, and arrives for 10am Remembrance Service at Keighley Shared Parish Church. 11am - Wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial.

Oakworth: 10.45am - Remembrance Service and wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial in Oakworth Park.

Oxenhope: 10.45am - Service of Remembrance followed by wreath laying ceremony at 11.15am in St Mary the Virgin Church, Hebden Bridge Road, Oxenhope.

Queensbury: 10.30am - Parade assembles at Victoria Hall car park, Station Road, Queensbury. 11am - Service and wreath-laying at the war memorial followed by Service of Remembrance at Queensbury Parish Church.

Shipley: 9.45am - Remembrance Service at St Paul's Parish Church, Kirkgate, Shipley. Parade to war memorial in Crowgill Park. 10.55am - Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony.

Silsden: 10.45am - Assemble at the Cenotaph,Memorial Gardens , Kirkgate. 11am - Service and wreath-laying ceremony followed by procession to The Parish Church of St James the Great, Silsden.

Steeton: 10.50am - Service of Remembrance at St Stephen's Church, St Stephen's Road, Steeton. 11.45am - Wreath-laying ceremony at the adjacent memorial after the service.

Thornton 10.50am - Assemble at Thornton War Memorial in Thornton Cemetery. 11am - Service of Remembrance and wreath-laying at the war Memorial.
