Cougar Cubs Under-14s 4 Skirlaugh Bulls 6 - It's two years since the teams met in the first round of this Yorkshire Cup when Skirlaugh won 48-0 - and went on the win the trophy.

The Cubs were determined to show how much they had improved and both sides took part in a determined battle, and in the first half neither side could break the deadlock. They hadjust one clean break each and both full-backs pulled off tremendous try-saving tackles.

In the second half the Cubs took the lead with Matty Bailey forcing himself over from a play-the-ball. Shortly afterwards a couple of untidy handling errors gifted possession to Skirlaugh who made them pay with a try in the corner which was brilliantly converted from the touchline.

Despite a determined effort the Cubs were unable to pull it back in the last five minutes.

Odsal Sedbergh 0

Defence was the key between two previously unbeaten teams. The Cubs were certainly well organised, forcing errors early in the tackle count. They also had the edge in attack with winger Menzies picking up two tries in the left corner, one of them converted by full back Cartledge. It was stalemate for the next ten minutes, before centre Cawood jinked through on the last tackle to catch the odsal defence flat footed waiting for a kickto make it 14-0 at the break.

The second half was much tighter the visitors trying everything to break the Cubs watertight line. The stalemate was broken again midway through the half when Walker forced his way over from half back near the posts, Cartledge obliging with the extras.

West Bowling 6

Cubs Under 13's 20

The Cubs produced one of their best performances of the season.

The game started frantically with the Cubs pressurising the Bowling defence and snuffing out any attempt they made to reach the Cubs half. The Cubs large pack in attack led by Conor Caveney and Aaron Tattersall Jarvis was supplemented by excellent drives from Gwyn Drysdale. Two forward drives and an outstanding twisting run by captain Chris Spencer set up the territorial advantage for Ben Stead to kick perfectly across field into the goal line area for oncoming back Jordan Aitchison to score the first of an impressive first half hat-trick. His second was a similarly well pounced on bomb from Ben Stead and his third a well worked try where the ball passed through several pairs of hands to create the opening for a try in the corner, which was converted by Chris Spencer.

The second half and loss of two players, following a fracas, meant the Cubs had to dig deep.

Pressure from West Bowling eventually paid as their extra man and a quick passing move produced their only try of the game.

They went close shortly afterwards but magnificent defence by Aitchison and Joe Palmer prevented an almost certain try when they held an attacker up over the line. Their determination typified the whole team and was rewarded in the closing minutes when a crisp pass from Josh Ives set up Conor Caveney for a storming run to make the result certain.

Cubs Under-11s

Underbank Rangers

Both teams handled the slippery conditions well keeping handling errors to a minimum. The foundation of Keighley's win was laid in the first half with slick passing. In the second half Underbank threw ever thing at the Cubs defence and came close to turning the tables, but the hard work in training paid off.

The Cubs' scorers were David Meyrick (3), Adam Robinson (2), Jack Winterburn (2), Charlotte Roberts, Joe Buffey, Ben Leach, and Thomas Goodings.

The Match awards went to Charlotte Roberts (Top Tackler), her supporting tackling was first class. Adam Robinson (Coach's Award). Champaign Moment went to Scott Williamson and David Meyrick was man of the match.

Guiseley Rangers

Cougar Cubs Under-10s

A much anticipated match against Guiseley Rangers was played in a mud bath, with both teams covered from head to toe within minutes. The Cubs struggled to cope with Guiseley's outstanding tackling and passing, but they worked hard to make up ground.

Good individual running and hard tackling from the Cubs, together with a stunning debut from Will Rix and new players Martin Long and Arron Moorby showed real promise. Great play from man of match Alfie Seeley, and good tackling from Benjamin Dixon with Top Tacklers Liam Tarpy and Kyle Wilmot kept the score down.

The Outstanding Effort award went to Dan Connell, and try scorers were Taylor Stott (2), Jak Adams, and Kyle Akrigg.
