Table tennis star Mary Fuller has got the new season off to a flying start.
The 12-year-old member of Oakbank Table Tennis Club beat a host of older players to win her first Under-18 graded girls' tournament at Grantham in Lincolnshire.
The competition was a four-star select junior open tournament and on her way to the finals Mary beat the No1, No2 and No5 seeds.
"Mary's form on the day was just what champions are made of," said coach Hans Soova. "She played with heavy top spin and fought back from 7-0 down, after taking a time out, to secure a 13-11 win on her way to the final."
In the final itself she beat 17-year-old Kelly Skegts of Essex 3-1 to take the title.
Stepping up to take on Under-18 challengers has provided Mary with a completely new challenge and she has shown outstanding ability. Mary is a former National Under-12 champion and worked her way up to N1 in the Under-13 rankings.
