Alderley Edge 2

Ben Rhydding Firsts 4

BEN Rhydding men's first team travelled to Cheshire boosted by the knowledge that Alderley Edge's Australian Olympic bronze medallist was sidelined with a broken leg.

Nonetheless, Alderley began brightly and Rhydding goalkeeper Phil Weaver made a series of fine saves.

Ben Rhydding's lively forwards always carried a threat and it came as no surprise when Matt Bell, celebrating his 21st birthday, reverse-sticked the ball over the stricken goalkeeper.

Luke Lambert doubled Rhydding's lead with a close range effort before Alderley reduced the arrears when Danny Farter deflected the ball into his own net.

After the interval the Ilkley outfit moved up a gear and were rewarded with further goals from Neil Sugden and Lambert.

Alderley Edge grabbed a late consolation goal but Rhydding ran out comfortable winners. Man-of-the-Match was goalkeeper Weaver.

The Ben Rhydding men's second team lost 2-1 to Sheffield University Bankers Thirds, Callum Franks scoring their goal.

Ben Rhydding third team lost 4-2 to Sheffield University Bankers Fourths and their goals were scored by Rob Hatfield and M Thornicroft.

The men's fourth team lost 4-1 to Harrogate Fourths, their consolation goal coming from B Carter.
