Inspirational marathon fundraiser Jane Tomlinson is backing an Aire Valley tribute to one of her most punishing achievements.

Managers at Bradford & Bingley are holding an iron man triathlon similar to the gruelling event the mum-of-three completed in the United States last year.

Jane, who has finished three marathons since terminal cancer was diagnosed in 2000, completed the Ironman Florida Triathlon - a 2.5-mile swim in open water, followed by a 112-mile bike ride and finishing with a full marathon.

The 41-year-old of Rothwell delivered a motivational talk to the Bradford & Bingley team which touched on her iron man experiences and inspired them to hold their own charity event.

"The emotional power of hearing what Jane had put herself through while having cancer touched us all," said organiser Sean Rushton.

"She went through being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2000 and being someone who hadn't done much running at all, to completing some amazing achievements. It showed us that anyone can do it."

Sean and fellow managers are hoping to add to the £1.2m raised by Jane's Appeal by staging their iron man challenge between Bradford & Bingley's two offices in Bingley and Crossflatts.

Their triathlon will be a scaled-down version of Jane's achievement, and will see participants run two miles between offices along the A650 Bingley relief road, swim two miles at Bingley Pool and cycle eight miles along the Leeds/Liverpool Canal path.

"I think Jane's example has shown us that no matter what the challenges are in your personal life or working life, you can achieve your goals if you put your mind to it," said Sean.

Jane's husband, Mike Tomlin-son, said the family was delighted about the iron man bid.

"It's fantastic they've been inspired and wanted to go away and raise money and benefit other people.

"If Jane can have a positive influence on people's lives it is half of what she set out to do."

Jane has announced she is to enter the New York Marathon on November 6, launching a year-long bid to raise a further £1 million for charity.

She had said she was retiring from charity work last year after completing the Ironman Florida contest.

But following a course of chemotherapy earlier this year her health stabilised and she decided to continue fundraising.

But training has been tough. She was prevented from doing any sport after slipping off a kerb and breaking her ankle during her first training run following chemotherapy in April.

The Bradford & Bingley event is on November 18, the day of Children in Need, which will receive half of the funds raised - the other half going to Jane's Appeal.
