Farsley Celtic were in today's draw for the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup thanks to a deserved but narrow victory away to Salford City on Saturday.

The winning goal came in just the seventh minute. A free-kick was curled in from the right flank and Amjad Iqbal got the faintest of touches to glance a header past the home goalkeeper.

Salford, who were responsible for putting out Farsley's rivals Guiseley and another UniBond Premier Division club in Gateshead in earlier rounds, were not overawed and almost levelled just before half-time.

Celts goalkeeper Paul Cuss had shouldered a lot of the blame for the 4-3 midweek defeat at Bradford Park Avenue after two glaring errors. This time he could hold his head high after a fantastic double save.

The initial shot had too much power for the keeper to hold on to the ball but he did make the block.

Instinctively Cuss sprung to his feet and palmed the shot from the rebound over his crossbar. Celts boss Lee Sinnott said: "It is not an easy place to go to and the FA Cup is a leveller at the best of times.

"What was needed was a very focused, professional approach to the game and a performance that showed the character of our side. Fortunately for us we got just that, right through the ranks.

"After the few weeks we have had it was good to see a clean sheet. Salford acquitted themselves well and gave us a game. If both sides had taken their chances it could have been 7-2 or 8-3, it was that

flowing.

"I thought we stayed in front chance-wise so anything other than a win for us would not have been a true reflection.

"Their keeper made several very good saves but Cuss has had to make a top-class save to keep us in front.

"All the players had to stand up and be counted, no-one more so than Paul after Wednesday night. There are no hiding places for a keeper as errors lead to goals.

"But Paul is a big man; his outlook is that if you make a mistake you go out in the next game to make amends and he did.

"Despite all the hard work the rest of the team did and the chances we created, if it hadn't been for Paul and that save just before half-time we could have been looking at a replay or even been out of the

competition."
