Police have confirmed a body found in a remote part of Scotland is that of missing walker Greg Houghton.

The 57-year-old, originally from Lightcliffe, near Brighouse, went missing two weeks ago while walking on the Isle of Skye.

His body was found near Loch Coruisk on Wednesday.

Mr Houghton vanished while tackling the Cuillin Hills on Saturday, September 24.

He was supposed to meet his partner, Margaret, later that day but never turned up. Mountain rescue teams were forced to cut short their search time and time again as they were hampered by severe weather conditions.

Mr Houghton's brother Steven, who lives in Lightcliffe, travelled to Scotland last week to help in the search.

The family have endured an agonising wait over the last two weeks.

Both brothers are experienced fell runners and train with Calder Valley Fell Runners.

The club's website says Mr Houghton was last seen by a walker on the same ridge at about 3.45pm on the Saturday and was heading back to descend the hill at the time.

Mr Houghton and his brother Steven are founder members of Calder Valley Fell Runners and have represented the club at almost every race for years.

Greg Houghton, who later moved from Lightcliffe to Wainstalls, was a Calderdale traffic warden.

Northern Constabulary confirmed yesterday the tragic news that the body found was that of Greg Houghton.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
