Pool ace Martin Chapman has helped win the European Seniors Black Ball title for England.

Martin, from Haworth, is one of the district's top players and is a member of the pool Pro Tour.

He travelled with other members of the tour, Steve Evans from Northampton and Adam Clarke from London, when they went to Italy to take part in the European Pool Championships.

"There were some of the best players from throughout Europe taking part. We were knocked out of the competition we had gone out to compete in, but there was an American 8-Ball competition taking place alongside so we decided to give that a go," he said.

They entered as a GB team and went on to win the title, but did not have things all their own way.

In the semi-final they came up against a tough team from Portugal who had won the title for the last three years, but made it through to take on the Netherlands in the final.

"It was a very close game and the match was level at 1-1 but we went 6-2 down in the final, but I pulled things back to win 7-6," Martin said.

Martin played for New Inn in the local leagues before joining the professional tour.

"It was a superb feeling to pull back and win - and we received a superb trophy," Martin said.
